LoL if you were not so insanely obsessed with electric car failures, i would take you seriously. Every car manufacturer of combustion engines has failed like this with just as bad a service. Many have knowingly sold cars with cars they know are deadly to drive, cars that have caused deaths due to failed parts, problems they knew about but chose to ignore and blame on the driver. If you do a quick browse of youtube you will come cross many videos of BYD owners that are very happy with their cars. Choosing the worst examples of failures is all fine and good, it gives everyone the opportunity to understand what is going on and how to deal with it. BYD has a good name as a reliable and decent build quality car, it is very cheap for what you buy and they are forced to fix issues that arise, of course they are not going to be happy that someone, after driving the car for a year and putting 33 000 miles on the clock want a full refund when the solution while expensive is to replace the battery that failed.

I think Australian consumer law is far too over the top in favour of consumers. Replacing the battery in this case would be much fairer, in my opinion. 33,000 km that's a lot of use. If the replacement battery can not be done at a level that is equal to new, then the car should be replaced for new, not refunded. A loaner car that they can put 8500km on in 3 months seems rather generous. Also remember that their 33000km car now has a brand new unused battery increasing its value.

We are paying 3 seperate taxes in one transaction if you spend over the ridiculous lct threshold
